An Easy Way to Make Me Happy

This was on the 5.111 (chemistry) website today:

A note on the textbook

The official textbook for 5.111 is the 4th edition of Atkins and Jones, and all reading assignments and extra review problems (given prior to exams) match up with the page and problem numbering of this edition. However, we realize that the 3rd edition is significantly less expensive and that many of you have a copy of this edition, so we will make every effort to include the corresponding reading and practice problems from the 3rd edition. However, please keep in mind that there will be some cases where there is a section of reading that is slightly different in the different editions. Since the problem set questions are typed out, the 4th edition of the book is NOT needed for problem sets.

We continued using the 3rd edition for as long as possible in this course, but we had to swich this year because the publisher stopped printing new copies of the 3rd edition over a year ago, and we couldn't guarantee there would be enough copies for the ~400 students in 5.111 and 5.112.

Simply put, that is beautiful. I bought the 3rd edition from an upperclassman, because the 4th edition is beyond expensive - I was beginning to think I'd have to start selling off limbs on the black market to cover the cost of textbooks.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some reading to do, out of my 3rd edition textbook.
